So it's only been almost two weeks and already people are screaming for more blogs. Okay okay! Here I go...
Since my last blog I have been up to a few things, but nothing compared to the next few weeks! (which I will elaborate on later). The Saturday before last (30th January) I had lunch with my second host family - Rikke and Nielserik Bertelsen - whom also live along the beach just a five minute walk away from my current house. Nielserik is a part owner of Chrisfish; a major fish company which i believe mainly supplies shellfish (prawns and what not). So for lunch we literally had three types of prawns with some bread and fish. It was really good! And I am under the impression that I will be eating fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner from June to September!
That same night, I had dinner with my first host family Neils and Grete Korning. I kid you not, we had pasta with PRAWNS for dinner. SO MANY PRAWNS IN ONE DAY!
I had a tour around both houses and got to know each family a little. Both made me very happy and I am very much looking forward to staying with them.
I think I am very lucky to be hosted by the Bangsbostrand Rotary club as they are, basically, the rich district! Apart from the fact that I know how LUCKY I am to have good economic support, they are all just a lovely bunch of people! My houses which I am staying in, include luxuries (views of the ocean, modern styles, etc etc). So if you hear me complaining this year; tell me to have some cement as I have everything I should want! The people are lovely, the school is lovely, the homes are lovely, the scenery is lovely... you get the idea.
On Sunday (31st January) I woke at 4am (YES FOUR AM!) to take the ferry to Sweden for a ski holiday! ... No biggy, just popping over to Sweden for a week...
I went with my councillor's family: Søren, Bente (mor), Trine, Anders, Kristina, Thomas and Randy. I would explain the relations of everyone, but it is TOO confusing! The boat took just three hours to get to Sweden, which was very comfortable upstairs in the warm and comfy lounge booths. Once we arrived in Sweden it was a 5 hour drive to Branäs where we stayed not a 5 minute walk to the slopes. Everyone was VERY surprised that I was able to ski somewhat well even though I had only been once. My reply to this was that my crazy previous Principal forced us to learn fast on our ski trip to go down the black runs without dying! Snowies 09 should know what i'm talking about! We stayed in Sweden until Saturday the 6th. Although I admittedly was not excited to go on the skiing trip in the beginning (by being scared from skiing in 09!), I enjoyed it A LOT and am so glad that I was able to go, and with such lovely people!
Then on Sunday the 7th we went to a 'Welcome Lunch' for us newbies in district 1440 (group W10). There were a lot of S09 (oldies) there and it seems that there are maybe half the amount of newbies than oldies!
It was on Sunday that i really got homesick. And I have to say it is the WORST feeling ever! Rotary did warn us, but the problem is there is nothing you can do, it just sucks! I'm not going to share the details, because that's no fun.
At gymnasium (school) I am very happy. I got put in such a good class! I don't do anything in class, I simply don't understand all the fast spoken Danish. The teachers don't expect me to do any work but, expect in English... which I think I can handle. Today in Danish, the teacher came up behind me and looked at my computer scream and exclaimed "why are you on facebook?!", then after realising it was me she laughed, apologised and walked away. haha, if only that happened at Cleveland. I do wish I could understand though; I feel as though my brain is turning to moosh!!!
I also got my box sent from home a week ago. It was the best feeling! I know have enough clothes (for now) and more than two pairs of shoes. Ahhhh the feeling is good.
On Sunday (14th) I am going to Bjerringbro for intro camp. I believe all the W10ers (new exchange students) in Denmark are going. Matt (my oldie from Arizona) said that it is really fun, but there will be an update when I get back on the 21th.
I have a lot happening is the next few months so here is a short calendar of my upcoming adventures (and changing of host families)...
(also I am telling you all this so I don't get abusive messages about 'not being online' like I did whilst in Sweden! :P)
February 14th to 21st - Bjerringbro intro camp
February 22nd to 25th - Copenhagen
February 28th - Go to first host family, the Kornings
March 5th to 7th - Rotary 'Get to gether' in Copenhagen
March 21st to 25th - 2Z trip to London
May 23rd to June 9th - Euro tour
June 13th to 17th - Limfjorden (sailing trip)
June 19th - Second host family, the Bertelsens
September 25th - Last host family Jørgensens
So for the first few weeks I am stoked to be so busy! But then after June it dies down heaps with all the fabulous trips all over Europe. I guess I have to have somewhat of a normal life here in Denmark... However this should include parties, parties, parties thank you!
I am very luckily feeling much better tonight, so hopefully the homesickness is giving me a break! Obviously I miss all those special people back home. Please keep safe and well; if anything bad happens to anyone I love, I will be very angry! So no getting seriously ill okay!!!
